As part of our summer semester here at RCC we have been assigned a project in Residential Design. Most students were excited to find out that we would be going to our instructors home and "designing" for her! Each student's "design firm" will be assisting the Woodward's with renovations to their 1930's minimal traditional home located in High Point.
Prior to the visit we were to assemble a designers kit to take with us. This kit consisted of your obvious: tape measures, pens, pencils, camera and contract. We were to also put together a Look Book. This book is a collection of pictures organized by style. It should contain many different styles, such as Industrial, French Country, and Victorian, for example. The designer is to loan this book to the client along with giving them a Client Questionnaire, so that they may assist the designer in their wants and needs, along with the style or combination of styles they most prefer.
The Woodward's style turned out to be Organic Rustic along with Gustavian. After learning the Woodward's style it is up to each designer to research those styles, and based on the information from the Client Questionnaire find furniture, fabrics and finishes that will best please the client. I have attached a few inspirational photos in guiding me through this journey of renovating the Woodward's home in having a more Organic Rustic/Gustavian Style.
